Whatnell joined Sunoco, in Philadelphia as CIO, in November 2001, to develop and lead the company's IT renewal strategy. Prior to that he spent 17 years with Texaco including Head of IT Europe in London, moving to the USA in 1995, serving in several Corporate Director positions covering IS, Telecommunications, Advanced Technology Services, ERP, the IT member on Texaco's global technology policy and strategy team, and General Manager IT in the shared services company for Texaco, Shell and Saudi Refining Inc.
Peter is on the advisory councils for the IT programs at Villanova and LaSalle Universities, the Philadelphia Chapter of Black Data Processing Associates, Chairman of Philadelphia Chapter Society for Information Management a board member with Opera Company of Philadelphia. Sunoco, Inc. (NYSE: SUN), headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, is a leading manufacturer and marketer of petroleum and petrochemical products with revenue of over $25billion and 14,000 employees.
